I investigate how the affordances of XR experiences – such as interactivity, visualization, goal-directed activity, and presence – can be leveraged to promote more effective learning specifically in humanistic and linguistic subjects. On one hand, I am interested in understanding how user activity in an XR experience generates mental narratives that help learners structure, organize, and process culturally and linguistically situated knowledge. On the other, I am designing procedures and evaluative tools to define and assess the learning that occurs in interdisciplinary teams of students, faculty and staff who integrate Immersive in their work. I am looking at how the activity of these teams can be configured to project-based learning, and how this learning can be used to complement or challenge existing post-secondary pedagogical approaches to language, culture and heritage learning.
